Baltimore Inner Harbor for Memorial Day Weekend

Photos of Chesapeake Bay Light
Bay Bridge, and Busted Speed Boat

Friday, May 25. This morning we said a temporary fond farewell to the Cowhigs, and the Stagg/Hicks party headed north across the Bay to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. A fair number of sailors have started their Memorial Day weekend early. We passed under the huge Bay Bridge and began the long trek through the ship channel, passing Fort McHenry just before Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. As we entered the Inner Harbor’s No Wake zone, we heard a radio conversation between a sailboat and the Coast Guard regarding damage received from a 70-foot power boat that had just passed the sailboat too closely, without warning and without slowing down. One sailboat crew member had an ankle injury.

By the time we topped off our fuel tanks, the local water police had stopped the offender (shown in the picture), were bringing him in, and were discussing his offense. There have been many such incidents, and we’ve enjoyed a malicious glee that justice was being served in this case at least. Of course, this incident is exactly why we decided to stay off the water during this holiday weekend.
