Kingston to Picton, Still on Lake Ontario

Monday, July 2. We said a fond farewell to Jim and Martha this morning. We will miss our excellent traveling companions. They will probably get back to Alabama traveling by car about the same time we will get there by boat/airplane.

After the narrow confines of the Rideau Canal, Lake Ontario seemed open and expansive as we headed west. The town of Picton, population 4,000, is located in Prince Edward County, which is actually an island. Picton was an easy stop-off point, so Bob and I we pulled into the county marina early in the afternoon. We then spent a couple of hours walking up and down Main Street, and an ice cream stop was Bob’s reward for letting me spend time in a few artistic gift shops. (Several shops were still closed in honor of Canada Day though.) On the way back, a red tug, "Rosebud" caught our eye. When we returned to the boat, Bob spotted a Looper flag on a Mainship trawler. We invited Mary and Scott Coles from Mascot over, as well as a neat couple on a C&C sailboat (Margaret and ?) from Toronto. Though the second couple were not Loopers, we all had a really pleasant visit followed by a great dinner at Kurrah’s with Mary and Scott. Boaters are friendly folks, eh!
