Trent-Severn Waterway to Lock 18 in Hastings, Ontario

Sunday, July 15. Today was a blue sky day, even though a dark cloud kept threatening. We covered only 20 miles and 6 locks, but we were more than ready to stop at the end of the day! We especially enjoyed the scenery as we cruised along the Trenton River. The waterfront cottages are attractive but not ostentatious as are so many along the U.S. rivers and coastlines.

Today is Sunday, so lots of families were out in boats or having picnics along the waterway. One of the main attractions around here is to drive to various Trent-Severn locks just to watch boaters come through. We thought we’d be surrounded by Loopers, but most of them seem to be ahead or behind us. However, we again packed ourselves into locks with friendly Canadians (some locks allow boats to tie onto cables on each side of the lock as shown in the photo above). We enjoyed a short walk into the town of Hastings (funny sign), and tonight we staying at Hastings Marina where they have a bit of WiFi.
