Flotilla Day 7 thru 9. Town of Little Current, North Channel of Lake Huron, Ontario, Canada.

Friday thru Sunday, August 3-5. The route from Killarney to Little Current included the distant pink granite La Cloche mountain range. A string of Loopers timed our arrival to coincide with the 15-minute opening each hour of the Little Current bridge. Lots of wind made docking at Spider Bay Marina a bit of a challenge, but we were glad to be tied up for a few days.

The time here has provided good old Second Wind an opportunity for needed clean-up after the excitement of the day before. We were lucky to find spots for all the Looper flotilla boats because this was a national holiday weekend, and it is also the Little Current 40th Annual Haweater Weekend. Loopers have dined together and enjoyed a wine and cheese party hosted by gracious flotilla leaders Karen and Bob Jantz. On Sunday, the Chamber of Commerce provided a school bus tour of the surrounding area. We tend to forget that we are on Manitoulin Island, which is Ojibwe country. We went to Kagawong and saw the Bridal Veil Falls and to Ten Mile Point to look down on the North Channel. A visit to the Kasheese Art Studio and the Ojibwe cultural center gave us insight into the culture of the First Nation here on the North Channel. Evening brought a Parade of Lights and fireworks, which we enjoyed from the comfort of Seaquel’s flybridge.
