Flotilla Days 3 – 5: Parry Sound to Killbear

Sunday thru Tuesday, July 29-31.
After
breaking up the long line of rafted Looper boats, we all headed out through several tricky passages and countless rock bluffs and islands on our way to the town of Parry Sound. A stop at famous Henry’s restaurant was a treat. I have become a real fan of fresh pickerel (walleye), and Harry’s version is as good as it gets. Their crisp, tempura-like batter is outstanding.

Parry Sound was a pleasant place to relax for a couple of days after our "strenuous" time at anchor. The flotilla stayed at Big Sound Marina, which was a convenient distance for walking to restaurants and shops. The town was once a lumbering and salt-producing center, but today, tourism is certainly a major industry. Best of all, we had Internet access from our boats -- a rare and wonderful thing in these remote areas of Canada.

Bob and Karen Jantz hosted a wine and cheese gathering for the flotilla, then we ate before playing a game of Sorry on the Clare's boat Sea Knight. On Tuesday morning we were off to the village of Killbear. Before we got there, several of us anchored and had a cool, refreshing dip in a sandy beach area. Tonight we are staying at Killbear Marina, where a Looper dinner has been planned.
