Mackinaw City, Michigan, USA!

Saturday, August 11. Blessed with calm seas, we headed past the DeTour Reef Light toward the Straits of Mackinac (pronounced “Mackinaw” no matter how it is spelled). On the radio we talked to several Loopers whom we haven’t met, but whose boat names we recognized from the airwaves. Approaching Mackinac Island, there were no fewer than four big ferries bearing down on us and three coming up behind. That was thrilling! To our right were the gorgeous Mackinac Straits bridge and two more lighthouses. A weather front is headed this way, so we are happy to be tucked into the Mackinaw City marina until it passes through. Both Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island promise to be fun.
