Croker Island in “The Benjamins” on the North Channel, Lake Huron, Canada

Tuesday, August 7. The weather forecast was better today, so Seaquel headed out early in the morning. We will miss the delightful Lillys and look forward to seeing them again at their home port in Holland, Michigan. Bob had to have a crown glued on, so Second Wind and Happy Destiny didn’t get away until almost noon. Our plan was to head west toward The Benjamin Islands, which is further away from civilization, but further west toward home. These islands are famous for gorgeous scenery and pink granite rocks, so we weren’t surprised to find a number of other boats, including several Loopers, already anchored in the cove on Croker Island where we were headed.

We had our first experience tying the boat directly off to shore, a standard North Channel practice. After putting down bow anchors, Bob and Paul took a dinghy and long lines to the big rocks on shore. Dinner onboard Happy Destiny was delicious, as was the beauty of the night. I’d love to stay here for days -- maybe longer. I have fallen in love with these Canadian waterways.
