Cruise to Marathon

Thursday, January 28. These photos were posted after the fact. After anchoring off New Turkey Key Wednesday night(not our favorite, but it got the job done), we dodged a maze of pesky crab pots until we finally arrived at the famous Seven Mile Bridge in the Keys. We were told to enter through the sixth opening from the left.... And finally, we saw what we had been waiting for: the entrance to Boot Key Harbor. Here hundreds of boats of all types, sizes, and shapes are tied to mooring balls. Some stay here long-term; others come and go. It is a laid-back life. Most transportation is by dinghy. Every morning at 9 a.m., a Cruisers Net occurs on VHF channel 68. Newcomers are welcomed; good-byes are spoke to those leaving; the weather forecast is given; announcements are made; questions and answers exchanged; and finally items are bought and sold. We are staying at a marina, Sombrero Dockside, but we arrived two weeks early. To accommodate us, the dockmaster has to move to various slips (including one in front of the loud, raucous bar/restaurant) until our original slip becomes available.
